movies I wanna see...
but can't.
Here in Korea they only release a small fraction of the movies that come out in the US, and unless they are hugely popular (like Harry Potter) they usually don't come out until long after they have been playing back home. For example, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was just recently released in movie theaters here...and that movie's been out in the US since March of 2004. That's just ridiculous.
So anyway, I've been dying to see Shopgirl ever since I read the book a couple of months ago. The movie was released back home at the end of Novemember, but of course there is not one theater here that is playing it. I also want to see the theatrical release of the musical Rent, but again, same story. Guess I won't be seeing these anytime soon...and for certain they will no longer be playing in theaters by the time I get back. I'll probably have to wait for them to come out on video. Oh well.
On a better note though, there is at least one movie I've been wanting to see that I was shocked to find will be playing starting this weekend at the theater in COEX mall. Broken Flowers starring Bill Murray came out a while back in the US, but I never got a chance to go see it before I left. So I think I'll be going to see that this weekend, and hopefully I won't have any trouble buying a ticket. I have a promotional brochure featuring the movie, so maybe if I bring that along with me and point to it should there be any problem I'll be ok. Hopefully.
Ugh...but I really really really wanna see those other movies, and of course I am having no luck finding torrents of them. I think I'm gonna cry. ::sniff::

Well, some of the blockbuster movies in Korea are released earlier than other parts of the world excluding USA. I live in Australia but I noticed many movies are released earlier in Korea than here but then some are released later than here. The reason behind it is because before they import it they want to see the progress of the movie throughout the world unless it's a hit guranteed movie like Lord of the rings.
BTW, I saw the movie shop girl and trust me it's nothing special. I personally didn't like it very much.. so don't bother.. But then it's a subjective opinion..
You know you could probably just have someone buy it on dvd and mail it to you and it'd get there faster than waiting for it to come to theaters...:P
Personally I like to download them from Limewire totally avoiding have to buy them for $5 at E-Mart and having to wait for them to be sent to me. Just a thought...
I've seen Rent twice. Jen - you will LOVE it. Very true to the original stage show. Makes me miss "You Can't Stop the Beat." We will miss you in "Pippin."
